Covid-19 has accelerated many consumer behavior trends during 2020, one main trend being how consumers are choosing the way they shop.

With establishments being forced to close temporarily on and off since March 19, 2020, small business have been impacted heavily, some even having to shut their doors for good. All the while big businesses such as amazon, whose stocks have increased by 60% according to Forbes, have been booming.

Now more than ever Americans have been blasting the Shop local movement, which builds its foundation on helping small businesses. Research showing that 82% of consumers will pay more now to support local or small businesses.

Community is a driving force amongst consumers many taking to their social media platforms to let it be known using the hashtags shop local or shop small.This to inform society of the importance and need of shopping and supporting favorite small businesses to prevent anymore closures.

84% of buyers said they plan to continue to buy from local and independent businesses, which is an increase than reports from the beginning of the pandemic. This information showing that this trend isn’t just here to stay it is actually picking up momentum.

If a global pandemic has inspired anything positive, it is a sense of togetherness. Communities everywhere have stepped up and provided support to those most vulnerable during this time.

This movment has created a platform for local businesses to remind consumers their importance in the community.
